William Penn Book Projects
My Symbol Response project for The Wednesday Wars, by Gary Schmidt
I think this is what
Holling
HoodHood
looks like, while reading a book. Holling
is a very smart kid who enjoys reading.
This is William Shakespeare.
Holling spent his Wednesdays with
Mrs. Baker, reading plays by Shakespeare.

This is what Holling's teacher looks like. She is an older lady, but she is also athletic, because she was an Olympic champion.
This is a picture of Vietnam War soldiers. The Wednesday Wars taught me a
lot about this war in Asia that I didn't know about before reading the book. When a school worker's husband was killed, it made me wonder how it would feel to have a family member fighting in a country far from home.
I think this is what Holling's sister looks like.
She is very much into the "hippie movement" of the 1960s.
She is anti-war, loves the Beatles and dresses like the girl
in this picture.
