Thesis Statement for a Research Paper
A thesis statement is a sentence at the end of the first paragraph of your research paper that explains the entire paper in one statement. A Thesis Statement, or TS, is the single-most important sentence in your paper. Ask yourself this question: What is the most important message this entire paper should convey to a reader? Your answer should be a lengthy, compound sentence. Your Thesis Statement should focus on ONE idea. You don’t want your paper going in two different directions.
SAMPLE THESIS STATEMENTS
-Susan Eloise Hinton has sold millions of books about young adult life, influencing both teenagers and adults nationwide for decades.
-Robert Montgomery Knight and John Wooden have done more to influence college basketball than any other coaches in America.
