Discovery Research Project Guidelines

TOPIC:                    Historic, Fantastic or Mysterious event or thing

TIMELINE:               Approximately 3 and ½ weeks, beginning on October 27th

REQUIREMENTS:     See materials/ items below

VALUE:                   100 points  

DUE:                        All due dates are TBA  

MATERIALS/ ITEMS TO TURN IN

  • 10 content cards completed for the project.            15 points
  • 3 source cards.                                                          10 points
  • Minimum of 3 sources:
    • o book/magazine/newspaper/TV interview or documentary
    • o at least 1 Internet article
    • o hardcover or electronic encyclopedia
  • Properly formatted outline, posted to your Barnesclass.com website.         15 points
  • One-page research paper, posted to your Barnesclass.com website with a minimum of 3 citations.
    • at least 5 paragraphs with an introduction, body and conclusion
    • NOTE: the paper should have 1-inch margins and be in Times New Roman, 12-point type size.   50 points
  • A properly formatted Works Cited page at the end of the research paper; NOTE: this is the last page/section of your paper                           10 points

 NOTE: all work will be due on dates to be specified later as final work.  No rough drafts will be collected. 

Any work NOT posted to Barnesclass.com MUST be typed in a Word document and handed in on specified due dates.

MINI LESSONS: All parts of this project will come with mini lessons in class or in the library.  All lessons will be available on our classroom website, Barnesclass.com, on the research page.  If you are absent during a mini lesson, it is your responsibility to view the lesson on our website and get any extra explanation from your teacher during homeroom or after school.
