Discovery Research Unit Day 1: follow all steps below:
- Read Mr. Barnes' blog post at this link, then return to this page
- Return to the Research page; find and read the project guidelines at the top of the page
- Return to the Research page; find the topics, linked at the top of the page and read them -- you do not have to decide today, but think of a topic you might be interested in researching
- Return to the Research page; scroll down to the section called, mini-lessons and helpful research sites; find the link called, Plagiarism, and read the top of that page and one example
- Return to the research page and scroll to the mini-lessons and research sites sections on the research page and go to the Model Research paper in MLA style
- open this link
- skim the paper
- read ALL notes in the margins
- look carefully at the Works Cited page at the end; notice how the in-text citations in the paper perfectly match an entry on the Works Cited Page
- Return to the Research page and scroll down to the mini lessons and helpful research links section; open the page link called, "Thesis Statement and Examples"
- read this document carefully, as you will need to submit a thesis statement soon
- Return to the Research page
- Under the mini lessons and helpful research links section, open the document link called "Source cards and content cards"
- read this carefully and consider how you will gather information from various sources and take notes, using the method outlined in this document
