Research Checklist
Use the checklist below to make sure you have all required parts of your final research paper and Works Cited page
- A properly-formatted paper (review this model) pasted into or attached to your Barnesclass.com website, with
- at least 5 paragraphs -- introduction, body and conclusion
- a thesis statement that is the last sentence in your introduction: view this page for thesis statement review
- proper heading -- aligned left
- page numbers -- aligned right
- a title -- aligned center
- 12-point type size
- Times New Roman font
- one-inch margins (Word document only)
- double spaced (Word document only)
- little or no errors in mechanics; in other words proofread your work!
- In-text citations for no less than three facts in your paper (view this presentation for help)
- NOTE: in-text citations always appear in parenthesis (Jones 27), and they always come before a period
- ALSO: in-text citations are authors names or article titles; they are NEVER databases, web addresses or search engines
- So, the citations: (Google), (Wikipedia), (World Book) (www..anysite..com) and others like these are always wrong!
- Proper mix of your own words with facts or quotes from your research
- Be sure the introduction and the conclusion are your words only -- no citations
- Be sure each paragraph contains at least one sentence that you write -- one that is not from research
- A Works Cited page (the last page of your research report) with an alphabetical list of sources you used in your paper with the title, Works Cited -- aligned center
- NOTE: view this presentation on building a research project, so you can see how in-text citations match your Works Cited page, as well as what a Works Cited page looks like
- REMEMBER: Works Cited entries MUST have an author and/or a title of the actual source read for your paper; Works Cited entries NEVER begin with a web address, or URL
